After Seminare 1

Chapter seven tells us about gathering data, there are three main techniques for gathering data: interviews, questionnaires, and observation.

When gathering data there are five key issues to consider; goal setting, identifying participants, the relationship between the data collector and the data provider, triangulation, and pilot studies.
This I found very interesting due to the fact that what goals you set will affect the data gathering sessions, the technique you will use and also the analysis. Once you decided on the goals you can focus on what data to look for and also how to deal with it once its gathered.

Identifying participants.
I have a feeling that our population will be selected through sampling rather then saturation sampling. I.e. we will choose our participant rather then to have access to all members of our population. It’s more likely that we will have a population selected through convenience sampling, i.e. include those who were available rather then those specifically selected.
I found the part about “The relationship between the data collector and the data provider” important as well. Noticing that the relationship between the data collector and the data provider is important for what result you will get out of your study.
“So, can interviewers believe all the responses they get? Are the respondents giving the truth or are they simply giving the answers that they think the interviewer wants to hear?”
We decided to do a field study and target our goals and subgroup after we have observed our bus line.
Chapter eight tells us about analyzing data. Due to what kind of techniques we´ll use when gathering data, we will get different kind of data’s. For example questioners will result in raw data.

Chapter ten tells us about establishing requirements, i.e. understanding what the users needs, and that a requirement is and the meaning of different requirements. A good way to bring your users to life is to establish a few personas, which represent your typical users with skills, attitudes, tasks and environment.
